Spartan Soccer Players Named Hermann Award Semifinalists

Michigan State men's soccer senior Doug DeMartin and women's soccer freshman Laura Heyboer were each named semifinalists for the -Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Awards. Each is one of 15 student-athletes to be nominated for both the men's and women's awards. The awards are considered the nation's most prestigious college soccer honors.

The Spartans, now 13-6-3 overall, will wait until Monday evening when the NCAA Tournament selections are released to see if their season will continue.

Michigan State women's soccer freshman Laura Heyboer was voted the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year it was announced Wednesday (Nov. 5) by the conference office. Heyboer's Freshman of the Year accolade was a unanimous selection. The Hudsonville native becomes the first Spartan to earn conference Freshman of the Year and the first to win conference Player of the Year honors since Karen Winslow in 1994.
