Slobodnik-Stoll Named GAM Women's Player of the Year

For the second straight year, Michigan State women's golf coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll has been named the GAM (Golf Association of Michigan) Women's Player of the Year. Among her accomplishments, Slobodnik-Stoll reached the quarterfinals of the 22nd U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur in September and won her fourth consecutive GAM Mid-Amateur title over the summer. This marks the fourth time Slobodnik-Stoll has won the award, as she also took home the honor in 1996, 1998 and 2007.

Women's Golf Signs Liz Nagel, Caroline Powers to National Letters of Intent

Michigan State women's golf head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll announced on Wednesday the signing of Liz Nagel (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt High School) and Caroline Powers (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green High School) to National Letters of Intent. Nagel and Powers will join the Spartan program for the 2009-10 season.

The Michigan State women's golf team placed fourth in the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship as the three-day tournament concluded Tuesday at the Ginn Reunion Resort. The tournament featured 16 teams - 15 of which were ranked in the top 30, including seven in the top 10. After advancing to the championship bracket and getting the upset win over No. 1 UCLA in the first round, the Spartans fell to fifth-seeded Duke in the semifinals and seventh-seeded Denver in the third-place match.

In one of the biggest upsets in the history of the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship, eighth-seeded Michigan State defeated No. 1 seed and third-ranked UCLA in the first round of championship bracket play Monday afternoon. In the semifinals, MSU is currently tied with fifth-seeded Duke at two matches apiece; the fifth and deciding match is all square after 16 holes but was called due to darkness and will resume Tuesday morning.

Women's Golf Qualifies for Championship Bracket of Hooters Match Play Tournament

The No. 21 Michigan State women's golf team will play in the championship bracket of the Hooters Match Play Tournament after finishing eighth during stroke-play competition Sunday afternoon at the Ginn Reunion Resort. All of the tournament's 16 teams competed in a 36-hole stroke-play competition, with the results determining the seeds for match play; the top eight teams advanced to the championship bracket. Michigan State shot a 590 (293-297), one stroke better than No. 22 Kent State and No. 4 Georgia.

The 20th-ranked Michigan State women's golf team finished in second place at the Lady Northern Invitational, held at Purdue's Kampen Course, Sunday afternoon. The 14-team tournament, featuring every Big Ten team along with Notre Dame, Iowa State and Toledo, serves as a preview to the Big Ten Championships, which will be held at the same course on April 24-26, 2009. Laura Kueny once again led MSU with a 5-over 221 (77-72-72), tying for second place.

The No. 21 Michigan State women's golf team shot a 301 on Sunday in the final round of the Tar Heel Invitational, its best round of the tournament, to finish in 10th place in the elite event that featured 10 ranked teams.
