Spartan Soccer Players Named Hermann Award Semifinalists

Michigan State men's soccer senior Doug DeMartin and women's soccer freshman Laura Heyboer were each named semifinalists for the -Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Awards. Each is one of 15 student-athletes to be nominated for both the men's and women's awards. The awards are considered the nation's most prestigious college soccer honors.

The Michigan State men's soccer season came to an abrupt end Tuesday (Nov. 25) afternoon. After 110 minutes of scoreless play, Illinois-Chicago advanced to the third round of the NCAA Championship, 3-2, on penalty kicks after the teams tied 0-0 in regulation and two overtime sessions. The Spartans, who won both the Big Ten regular-season and tournament championships, ended the year with a 13-5-2 record.
