Spartans Finish 11th at NCAA Championships

The Michigan State women's cross country team ran to a tie for 11th place on Monday (Nov. 24) afternoon at the NCAA Championships. Seniors Nicole Bush and Lisa Senakiewich earned All-America honors by placing seventh and 21st, respectively. Washington won the title with four runners placing in the top four.

The Michigan State women's cross country team received an at-large bid to the 2008 NCAA Cross Country Championships which will take place Monday, Nov. 24 in Terre Haute, Ind. The Spartans, making their 10th-consecutive appearance, were one of 13 squads to receive an at-large bid and will join the top-two teams from each of the nine regions for a total of 31 teams.

Nicole Bush continued her spectacular senior season on Saturday (Nov. 15), taking first place at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet. Bush ran the 6,000 meter course in 20:48.5, nearly nine seconds faster than the nearest competitor, and has qualified for the NCAA Championship. As a team, the Spartan women placed third, just missing the automatic bid to the NCAA Championships as the top-two teams in each region receive an automatic bid.

Senior Nicole Bush (Wyoming, Mich.) became the fourth Big Ten Women's Cross Country Champion in Michigan State history as she helped the 2008 Michigan State cross country team earn third-place at the Big Ten Championships Sunday morning at the University of Michigan Golf Course. Bush helped the Spartan women score 83 points, while the men finished in sixth-place with 138 points. Both Bush and Lisa Senakiewich (Davison, Mich.) earned first team All-Big Ten honors.

Cross Country Set For Big Ten Championships

The Michigan State cross country teams will take the short trip to Ann Arbor this Sunday (Nov. 2) to compete in the Big Ten Championships. The women's team, currently ranked ninth in the nation, will run the 6,000-meter course at 10:45 a.m. The men's squad enters the meet ranked No. 5 in the Great Lakes region and will compete on the 8,000-meter course at 11:30 a.m.
